Iverson Finalist for Hall of Fame; Dangerous Cold This Weekend; Man Says Murder was Asst. Suicide

Former Philadelphia 76er star guard Allen Iverson was named 1 of 14 finalists for the 2016 Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. #3 A.I. was chosen in his first year of eligibility. Iverson won Rookie of the Year in 1997, NBA MVP in 2001, and was an 11-time All-Star (2x MVP). Tom Izzo (Coach), Shaquille O'Neal, Sheryl Swoopes (Player), Yao Ming, and Kevin Johnson (Player) are also finalists. Other local finalists include St. Joseph's grad and current Notre Dame women's coach Muffet McGraw and former Wisconsin coach Bo Ryan of Chester. The electees will be announced at the Final Four on April 4th. (full list below)

Dangerously low temperatures are set to take over the area this weekend. Overnight temperatures are expected to be in the single digits on both Sunday and Monday mornings with wind chills well below zero. Every local county in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware are enacting Code Blue emergencies and are opening additional warming shelters. Officials are trying to get homeless off the streets and into shelters and warn them about the dangerous cold. If you see someone in need, call police. Pet owners are also reminded to bring their pets inside for the weekend.

A Phoenixville man charged with 1st degree murder in the death of his girlfriend in December appeared today in court for a preliminary hearing. 27-year-old Anthony Michael Noble is accused of shooting a fatal dose of cocaine into 27-year-old Joette L. Mullen and watching her die. Mullen was found unresponsive by a passerby at Lock 60 along Tow Path Road in Schuylkill Canal Park in Upper Providence on Dec. 14. She had multiple fresh needle marks in her arm. The defense for Noble claims that the two had planned to die together and had a “Romeo and Juliet” suicide pact. He says he helped her inject the cocaine but backed out on his part after seeing her die. The defense contends that there is no 'malice' and charges should be Aiding a Suicide, rather than Murder. Prosecutors argued that the only one who says there was a suicide agreement is the defendant, and he has lied and covered his tracks. The judge ruled that the case should be held for trial on charges including 1st and 3rd degree murder. Arraignment is set for March 30th.

Tonight,
Cloudy skies, temperatures in the mid 20's, chance of a snow shower this evening in Center City
