Kane Escapes PA Senate Vote; Christie Suspends Campaign; 100 Students Sick at Ursinus

A vote on a resolution in the Pennsylvania Senate fell just a few votes short of the two-thirds majority needed to remove Attorney General Kathleen Kane by Senate Address. The vote was split 29-19 in favor of directing Governor Tom Wolf to take her out of office, which was about 4 votes short of passing. Kane has been operating on a suspended law license since October after she was charged with perjury and other offenses. The Senate did pass a resolution that left open the possibility they could vote on the matter again at another time. The state House also voted today. They approved a resolution to begin the more conventional impeachment investigation into Kane.

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has suspended his 2016 run for President. The governor informed his campaign staff this afternoon. Christie had a disappointing 6th place finish in the New Hampshire primary on Tuesday after spending a lot of time campaigning in the state. Carly Fiorina also announced that she was dropping out of the race.

Over 100 students have fallen ill at Ursinus College in Collegeville, Montgomery County over the past 24 hours. The first students started to complain of symptoms including diarrhea, vomiting and stomach pain on Tuesday night. By Wednesday afternoon dozens had overwhelmed the campus Wellness Center. Campus officials do not know the exact cause of the sickness but believe it is a virus. All of the sickened students had eaten dinner at the campus cafeteria on Tuesday. The cafeteria has been temporarily closed and is being cleaned. 22 students were taken to area hospitals and urgent care centers for treatment. The gastrointestinal bug seems to run it's course in 18-24 hours. The Montgomery County Health Department is investigating the cause of the outbreak. They recommend washing hands and cleaning common areas. Local restaurants have partnered with the college to provide food for the students while the cafeteria is closed. They include Wawa, Wegmans, Collegeville Italian Bakery, The Pizza Stop, Rocco's, Franco's Pizza Family Restaurant, and Marzellas Pizzaria.
