West Oak Lane Gas Leak, Frankford Shooting, Squilla Recalling Nightclub Bill

Officials say a natural gas leak was found at a home in the West Oak Lane section of Philadelphia early Thursday morning, leading to an evacuation. Crews were first called to the 7200 block of North 21st Street just before 2 a.m. Officials say the gas leak was found on an exterior wall at a home, forcing that home to be evacuated. Two people received medical treatment, officials say. PGW worked throughout the overnight hours to fix the issue.

Police say young children were present when a man was shot multiple times and killed late Wednesday night inside a home in the Frankford section of Philadelphia. This happened just before 10:30 p.m. in the 1800 block of Fillmore Street. Police say at least ten people were inside at the time of the shooting â€” four of them kids ages 4-8. Witnesses tell police a man approached the house, opened the door then fired several shots, striking the 30-year-old victim, who was pronounced dead inside the home. The victim was said to be a visitor at the home, not a resident. The gunman then fled the scene, police say. A nearby restaurant caught the suspect on surveillance video.
The shooting remains under investigation.

Councilman Mark Squilla will formally recall a bill he introduced two weeks ago, seeking to tighten restrictions on permits for nightclubs. He says constituents had complained about clubs that skirted the regulations by streaming music instead of hiring a band or DJ, and he asked the Nutter administration to draft a bill to close that loophole, but he says language was added that gave police inordinate power over the process. Squilla first said heâ€™d amend the bill, but decided starting over was better. Squilla thanked the local music industry for bringing him their concerns and says heâ€™ll work with them on the new bill.
