Snowcasters Getting Confident; i. Goldberg Army Navy to Move; Bogus School Threats

The first snow of the season is on its way. The big question still is, "How much?" Tonight we may see snow showers, but Friday afternoon marks the start of the main event. We may be looking at a major Nor'easter, but expect at least 6 inches of snow in Philadelphia and surrounding areas. As we get closer, the picture will become clearer. Snow will begin as early as Friday afternoon, but possibly later. The snow will likely last on & off through Saturday night, with some mixing of sleet and rain expected too, especially south and east of the city. Strong winds are also expected, especially at the Shore, and coastal flooding possible as well. Significant snow accumulation is possible heading into Saturday.

i.Goldberg Army & Navy store on Chestnut Street in Philadelphia will soon be packing its duffle bags. Unable to afford a rent increase at its current 1300 Chestnut St. home, the Philadelphia military surplus, work clothes, and outerwear store is looking for a new location for when its lease expires late next year. The 97-year-old business is finding itself on the losing end of Center City's brightening real estate fortunes, as rising demand for retail space enables landlords to seek ever-higher rents. I. Goldberg isn't the only casualty of central Philadelphia's rising profile as a hub of commercial and residential development.

More than 50 schools in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, and Massachusetts - including some in the Philadelphia region - were forced into evacuations and lockdowns Tuesday after school and police officials received threats generated by computer software. All the threats were ultimately deemed false. The threats for now, be treated as regional, isolated incidents. Authorities did acknowledge the similarities between the calls - almost all computer-generated, and each made by a caller who did not identify himself or herself. In the Chichester School District, home to six Delaware County schools in Upper Chichester, Marcus Hook, and Lower Chichester, the superintendent's office received a call shortly before 10 a.m. warning of a bomb that was to detonate in 45 minutes, Superintendent Kathleen Sherman said.
