Philadelphia Police have identified the suspect wanted in connection with the shooting death of one homeless shelter worker and the injuring of another worker early in the morning on Sunday. It happened at the Station House Transitional Center on the 2600 block of North Broad Street around 6 a.m. Police were looking for 32-year-old John Brock who fled the scene after the shooting. He has multiple prior arrests and is considered to be armed and dangerous. He was wanted for killing 43-year-old Edward Barksdale and wounding 26-year-old Lamont Barham. Brock turned himself into police late this afternoon and will face charges of murder, attempted murder and related offenses. He was thrown out of the shelter on Friday night for being intoxicated and breaking curfew. He returned in the early hours Sunday to retrieve his belongings and was turned away by the victims because they were locked away. When he returned again he was armed and began shooting. Barksdale was declared dead at the scene while Barham was taken to Temple hospital and will survive. There was a $20,000 reward leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect.

Today marked the 21st Annual Greater Philadelphia Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service. It is the largest collective day of service in the country with over 140,000 volunteers participating in events and activities throughout the region. Girard College, in the Fairmount neighborhood, was the center of it all with over 5,000 participants and 150 different activities in that location alone. Some groups helped organize food or clothing drives while others sponsored neighborhood cleanups. The King Day of Service also promotes year round service and community engagement. Did somebody say snow? I'm not talking about the dust we got yesterday. We were all looking at those 20 year anniversary of the Blizzard of '96 videos just last week. It may well look like that again this weekend. Of course, all the factors (temperature, moisture, storm track) have to stay the same, but all those scientific models right now have Philadelphia in a bullseye for a big dump truck full of snow Friday into Saturday. We've gotten it pretty easy this winter. We may have to pay some back dues. It's still 4 days away so lots will change. Stay tuned.

Tonight,
Clear skies, temperatures in the mid 20's this evening in Center City
