Edward Archer Arraigned on Cop Shooting; No Powerball Winner, Jackpot $1.3 Billion; Worker Rescued

The suspect who ambushed and shot a Philadelphia police officer on Thursday night was arraigned in court on Saturday. 30-year-old Edward Archer of Yeadon was charged with eight charges including attempted murder, aggravated assault and assault of a law enforcement officer. He is being held without bail. Archer attacked 33-year-old Officer Jesse Harnett as he sat in his marked police cruiser in West Philadelphia, shooting around a dozen times. Harnett was hit three times in the left arm before returning fire and giving chase. Archer told investigators that he did it â€œin the name of Islamâ€ and that he had pledged allegiance to the Islamic State. Archer has travelled to the Middle East twice, but as of now there are no indications that he has any connections to any terror groups or that the attack was part of a greater conspiracy. There was no winner in Saturday night's record $949.8 million Powerball drawing. The current estimated jackpot for Wednesday's drawing is a $1.3 billion annuity with a $806 million lump sum cash payout. This is a world record lottery jackpot amount.

A worker was rescued after falling and becoming trapped in a sink hole in Old City on Saturday afternoon. Construction crews were doing plumbing work in the area of the 300 block of Market Street when the sidewalk caved in around 3:15 p.m. The male worker fell into the 18-foot hole and became trapped. Philadelphia firefighters responded to rescue the man. The Market-Frankford El had to be shutdown to reduce vibrations while they dug and worked to shore up some boulders. The man was freed around 5:00 after almost 2 hours in the hole. He was taken to Jefferson University Hospital for observation.
