An accident in the southbound lanes of the Roosevelt Boulevard extension between the Schuylkill Expressway and Ridge Ave around 4:00 p.m. closed the road forcing vehicles off at Ridge and backing traffic up past Broad Street. It began with a domestic incident. A man then stole a car with his girlfriend's mother still inside. He was driving in the wrong direction on southbound Route 1 when he collided head on with another car. The suspect tried to flee from authorities on foot and jumped off the Boulevard bridge to the roadway below. He was taken to Temple University Hospital with life threatening injuries. Two women were taken to Hahnemann University Hospital in stable condition. UPDATE: The man who jumped from the Boulevard has died from his injuries.

Philadelphia Police have released video surveillance taken from the Mayfair neighborhood of a white/silver 2004-2008 Nissan Maxima believed to be driven by a man involved in a robbery and shooting on New Year's Eve. It happened around 9:50 a.m. on December 31st on the 7100 block of Montague Street in an alley between Erdrick Street and Montague. A 75-year-old woman was walking home from the grocery store when the car pulled up beside her and the driver demanded her purse. She refused and fought back despite the threat of the gun. The man shot her in the cheek and made off with her purse containing $400 and her phone. The woman walked home from the scene where police found her and took her to the hospital. Police are looking for a Hispanic man in his late 20s with a trimmed beard. He was wearing a red knit cap and was armed with a handgun. If you have any information contact Detective Sullivan of the Philadelphia Police Northeast Detective Division at 215-686-3153/3154.

Muralist Michael Pilato, creator of the “Inspiration” mural on Heister St. in downtown State College, has decided to readd 'halos' to various figures including Joe Paterno. Pilato removed the halo over three years ago in July 2012 after sanctions were announced against Penn State University surrounding the Jerry Sandusky scandal. It was first added shortly after the football coach died in January of 2012. Pilato says he is sorry he acted so fast to remove it before. In a video showing the repainting, Pilato comments that the halos aren't supposed to denote sainthood. "It is my hope that as you visit the mural and notice the halos over the people who have died, you will be reminded of how short a time we have to do great things as did the people on the wall." Paterno's vacated wins were returned to his record last year once again making him the winningest coach in NCAA DI history with 409. Pilato previously painted Sandusky completely off the wall.
