Globetrotter Star Dies; Pedestrian Killed on Roosevelt Blvd; Amazon Tries Aerosmith in Lehigh Valley

A beloved member of the Harlem Globetrotters has died. Meadowlark Lemon, a star attraction for 25 years, died on Sunday in Scottsdale, Arizona. Lemon was the undisputed master of the long-range hook shot, rubber-band ball and other crowd-pleasing tricks during the years he wore the Globetrotters' star-spangled red, white and blue uniform. He played in 7,500 consecutive games - the equivalent of more than 92 NBA seasons in over 100 countries before audiences that included Britain's Queen Elizabeth, Russian Premier Nikita Khrushchev and three different popes. Meadowlark Lemon was 83 years old.

A pedestrian was fatally hit by a car on Roosevelt Boulevard early this morning. Philadelphia police said the man was struck near Harbison Avenue at about 5:40 a.m. Preliminary information indicated that the man was trying to cross the road when he was hit, police said. The man, whose name was not immediately released, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, who remained at the scene, wasn't injured, police said, adding no other vehicles were involved. The crash, which snarled traffic during morning drive, remains under investigation.

Amazon.com is conducting a secret pilot program that could change the way it moves packages around the globe, and Lehigh Valley International Airport is right in the middle of it. The covert operation even has a cool name: Aerosmith. LVIA is among five airports Amazon is using to shuttle packages aboard cargo jets. Analysts say it's a potential game-changer that has the world's largest online retailer testing the waters for setting up its own delivery network to wean itself from FedEx, UPS and the U.S. Postal Service nationwide.
