Philadelphia police have charged a homeless male prostitute in the death of a local psychiatrist in a Center City hotel over the weekend. 27-year-old Manuel Baez has been charged with the murder of 75-year-old Howard Baker. Baker was discovered lying face up and naked on the floor of a hotel room at the Rodeway Inn on Walnut Street on Monday morning. He had a belt tight around his neck. Surveillance footage showed Baez leaving Baker's room alone around 12:30 a.m. Monday with his backpack and wallet. The pair had gone to the room together earlier in the evening on Sunday. Baker and another man were also in the room together that afternoon, but he is not a suspect. Baker, from Wynnewood, had an office two blocks away. He had told his wife he was watching the Eagle's game at a bar in the city.

A stolen SUV crashed head on into a SEPTA trolley in Philadelphia's Kingsessing neighborhood this morning injuring 27 people. It happened around 9:30 a.m. at 49th Street and Grays Avenue. Two teens in a stolen white Hyundai Tucson attempted to make a right turn on Grays Avenue and collided straight into the trolley. One of the teens was trapped and had to be extracted. He was transported to Presbyterian Hospital in extremely critical condition. The driver was listed in critical condition. 26 people from the Route 36 trolley suffered non life-threatening injuries and were taken by bus to Hahnemann and University of Pennsylvania Hospitals. The driver faces car theft, assault, and possible murder charges if his passenger does not survive.

A New Jersey firefighter, lifeguard, and champion beach patrol rower could lose his $78,000/year Margate city jobs after being convicted of shoplifting $7.98 worth of items from Wawa. 34-year-old Ashton Funk of Northfield was arrested on September 10th for stealing unnamed items from the Margate Wawa on August 17th. He was found guilty of the charges on December 15th. Funk was not on duty as a firefighter or as a member of the beach patrol at the time. However, the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office is arguing that a public employee is subject to dismissal from their employment if convicted of a crime involving dishonesty. The judge will issue his decision on the matter at a future date.

Tonight,
Rain continuing, temperatures rising to the upper 60's this evening in Center City.
