Obama Adresses New Phase of Terror Threat, Temple Hosts Students For DNC, Delco Cop Killen Graffiti

In a rare Oval Office address, President Barack Obama vowed Sunday night the U.S. will overcome a new phase of the terror threat that seeks to "poison the minds" of people here and around the world, as he sought to reassure Americans shaken by recent attacks in Paris and California. The president's speech followed Wednesday's shooting in San Bernardino, California, that killed 14 people and wounded 21. Authorities say a couple carried out the attack and the wife pledged allegiance to the Islamic State and its leader in a Facebook post. Obama said that while there was no evidence the shooters were directed by a terror network overseas or part of a broader plot, "the two of them had gone down the dark path of radicalization." He also reiterated his call for broader gun control legislation, saying no matter how effective law enforcement and intelligence agencies are, they can't identify every would-be shooter. He called it a matter of national security to prevent potential killers from getting guns.

When delegates gather in Philadelphia next summer for the Democratic National Convention , they'll be joined by hundreds of college interns. Two hundred to 300 students from across the nation will experience the Democratic National Convention from the inside.
Temple University is hosting the students, as part of the Washington Center’s two-week program that sends interns to each major party convention. The students will attend lectures and classes the week before the convention July 25 to 28. Temple is providing scholarships for ten of its own students to attend the DNC, and five of its students to intern at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland.

A Delaware County man took matters into his own hands when threatening graffiti showed up in his neighborhood. The graffiti was a threat toward police officers with the words 'Cop Killen Season' spelled out under a bridge in Chester. The hateful message was spread against the wall for weeks. Then a local landscaper said enough is enough. Pat McCuster, grabbed some white paint and painted right over those words. Chester Mayor John Linder says he’s glad Pat took the time to remove the graffiti.
