Record Breaking WMOF Mural Dedicated; SI SportsKid from Philly Again; MontCo Double Murder-Suicide

A mural was dedicated today that commemorates Pope Francis' visit to Philadelphia for the World Meeting of Families back in September. The work is titled The Sacred Now: Faith and Family in the 21st Century and was designed by City of Philadelphia Mural Arts Program muralist Cesar Viveros. The mural was painted by more than 2,700 individuals from 100 different countries working on 153 different panels. Pope Francis himself contributed to the work and signed his name to one panel. It was installed on the walls of the new Saint Malachy School at 11th and Thompson Streets. Guinness Book of World Records officials were on hand to witness the painting and are currently verifying a new world record for Most Contributions to a Painting by Numbers.

For the second straight year a Philadelphia-area teen has been named SportsKid of the Year by Sports Illustrated Kids. 15-year-old Reece Whitley from Lafayette Hill is a sophomore at William Penn Charter School in Philadelphia. The 6' 8â€ swimmer has broken numerous national records in his age group and won the junior national championships for 200m breaststroke. His times in the 100 and 200m breaststroke have qualified him to compete at the 2016 US Olympic trials this June in Omaha, NE. Whitley is also an A student outside of the pool.Last year, Philadelphia baseball phenom, Mo'ne Davis, was named SportsKid of the Year 2014.

Three people are dead after an apparent double murder-suicide in Montgomery County late Sunday night. Police in Hatfield responded a home covered in Christmas lights on the 100 block of Diamond Street after 11:30 pm. Inside they found three people shot to death - a 48-year-old woman, a 48-year-old man and a 28-year-old man. A 27-year-old female and her 4-year-old son were also inside the home but were unharmed. Police believe that the 48-year-old man, identified as Paul Marshall, shot the woman and the 28-year-old man, who was her son, before turning the gun on himself. Marshall and the woman were engaged. The younger female was Marshall's daughter. They all lived in the house together. Montgomery County 1st Assistant D.A. Kevin Steele says it was domestic related. Investigators are determining a more specific motive.
