I-676 Shooter Charged As Adult, Thanksgiving Menu Tips, PA Budget Stalemate

Pennsylvania State Police say a 17-year-old who was in a car stopped for a traffic violation shot a state trooper during a Tuesday morning chase on the Vine Street Expressway that ended in a fiery crash involving a school bus. Officials say Trooper Patrick Casey was shot in his shoulder during the incident. The teenager is expected to be charged as an adult with Attempted Homicide and other related offenses. Police say when the car was first stopped, they asked the four people inside to exit the vehicle, but one of the suspects jumped back in and took off. The suspect then crashed into the school bus, causing both vehicles to burst into flames. The bus was empty except for the driver, who escaped unharmed.

Folks all around the region are putting the finishing touches on their Thanksgiving preparations. Bank and Bourbon Chef Thomas Harkins says when you set out the Thanksgiving meal, keep an eye on the clock. Food can sit out at room temperature for about four hours. But don’t put anything back in the refrigerator too soon; he recommends letting food cool a little bit before packing up the Tupperware. And he says when you’re ready for leftovers, only reheat what you will eat and make sure it’s warmed to 165 degrees.

The on-again, off-again deal to end Pennsylvania’s budget stalemate is on again, but it appears that a plan for a major sales tax hike to generate funds for property tax relief is NOT part of the discussion for now. On Monday, Governor Wolf said the tentative budget deal was in “deep peril.” Late Tuesday afternoon, it appeared to have fallen apart, with Senate Republicans threatening to take an override vote on Wolf’s veto of temporary stopgap funding. In a statement, the governor’s spokesman characterized Tuesday’s developments as “theatrics.”
