Bodies of 2 Babies Found in Kensington; Zebras on the Loose From Circus; PHA Officer Shoots Robber

The bodies of two newborn babies were found Sunday morning by a 9-year-old boy who at first thought they were toy dolls. The discovery was made around 10:30 a.m. on the 1800 block of North Palethorp Street in Kensington. Kasime Crawford and his 12-year-old female friend were walking down an alley where they came across the babies near a place where trash had been dumped. Crawford told his father who called police. Both babies had cuts to the head and abdomen and their umbilical cords were still attached. The Medical Examiner said that autopsies had already been performed on the bodies. It appears they were left in the lot for several days. At this point they do not know how they died or exactly how old they are. Police are looking into nearby surveillance video to see if there's footage of whomever put the babies there. A black pickup truck was seen dumping trash nearby.

A pair of zebras escaped the circus around 2:30 pm Sunday afternoon and took a run in West Philadelphia before being captured. Today was the last day for the UniverSoul Circus. It was set up outside the Mann Center for the Performing Arts in Fairmount Park. The animals made their way up towards City Ave, darting through traffic and shopping centers with Philadelphia police cruisers trailing. The sight of a free roaming zebra surprised many motorists and passers-by. They were corralled after about a half hour. Police tweeted â€œZebras in custody. They are already sporting old-timey prisoner getup ahead of trial and sentencing. Have faith, fellas.â€ An investigation is being held to determine how they escaped.

Philadelphia Police are investigating after an off-duty Philadelphia Housing Authority officer fatally shot a robbery suspect. It happened around 6:45 p.m. Saturday in the 400 block of West School House Lane. He was walking when approached by two men, at least one was armed. They attempted to rob him and he fired. One suspect was hit several times while the other got away. The suspect was taken to Temple University Hospital where he died. The officer was not injured.
