NJ Escaped Convict Captured in Philly; Phillies to Hire Young GM; 4 Dead in OK Parade Crash

Authorities have captured a fugitive convicted on drug charges who escaped from a South Jersey prison early on Saturday morning. 41-year-old Panagioti Souris was arrested without incident around 4 p.m. at 6th and Market in Philadelphia. Officials with the New Jersey Department of Corrections noticed that he was missing from his bed at the Ancora facility of Bayside State Prison Saturday around 6 a.m. Souris was serving a maximum sentence of five years for two heroin charges. He was a minimum-custody convict. He now faces escape charges which could add three to five years to his sentence.

The Philadelphia Phillies are expected to name the 36-year-old Los Angeles Angels assistant general manager, Matt Klentak, as their new General Manager. He is replacing Ruben Amaro Jr. who served as GM from 2008 to 2015. Klentak is a Massachusetts native who graduated form Darmouth in 2002. He was a shortstop and team captain for the baseball team. Klentak started his career in Colorado in the Rockies' Baseball Operations department. He spent four years in Major League Baseball's Labor Relations Department where he first worked with Andy MacPhail, then President of the Baltimore Orioles, on the 2006 Collective Bargaining Agreement. MacPhail hired Klentak as Baltimore's Director of Baseball Operations from 2008-2011. He took the job in Los Angeles in 2011. Klentak was interviewed for this year's vacant GM job in Anaheim, but LA chose a different candidate. The Phillies have not confirmed the decision, but an announcement is expected on Monday. A woman suspected of DUI drove her car into a crowd of people at the Oklahoma State University homecoming parade Saturday morning, killing four people and injuring many more. 25-year-old Adacia Chambers of Stillwater drove her Hyundai Elantra into an unoccupied police motorcycle before plowing into the crowd sending spectators flying. Investigators are awaiting the results of blood tests to determine if she was impaired. A 2-year-old boy was the fourth person to die at the hospital. Five children and three adults remained hospitalized, ranging from good to critical conditions. University officials had discussed cancelling the afternoon football game versus Kansas, but decided to play. Flags at the stadium were flown at half mast and a moment of silence was held for the victims of the crash before kickoff. The crash site is only a few blocks from the stadium. The investigation is ongoing.
