Southwest Airlines Delays, Utley Suspended For Illegal Slide, Amtrak Pet Plans

Southwest Airlines said hundreds of flights have been delayed by technical issues and warned passengers flying Monday to arrive two hours early and print boarding passes before coming to the airport. The Dallas-based company said it was using back-up systems around the country to check-in travelers lacking printed or mobile boarding passes but technology problems that began Sunday morning were continuing. Southwest said about 450 of the 3,600 flights scheduled for the day had been delayed. Representatives for Southwest did not say what caused the problem or how long it would take to resolve, and that there was â€œabsolutely no indication nowâ€ that the problems were the result of hacking.

Safe at second base â€” and suspended for two games. Los Angeles Dodgers second baseman Chase Utley has been suspended two playoff games by Major League Baseball for his takeout slide that broke New York Mets shortstop Ruben Tejadaâ€™s right leg. Utleyâ€™s agent called the penalty â€œoutrageous and completely unacceptableâ€ and said there would be an appeal. An appeal would allow Utley to play until the hearing process is complete. MLB would likely try to resolve the matter Monday, before the series resumes.

Starting today, Amtrak is allowing passengers to bring their pets along for the ride on trains traveling along the Northeast Corridor.
The pilot program only applies to small cats and dogs though. Passengers must make a reservation, and the maximum weight of pet with carrier is 20 pounds. And thatâ€™s for dogs and cats. Pets must be at least eight weeks old and have current vaccination records. There is a $25 fee to bring your furry friend.
