Universities Safety Alert, Bellmawr Marijuana Facility, Philadelphia DNC Prep

Universities in Philadelphia are notifying students and staff about a safety alert from the FBI and ATF. The federal law enforcement agencies said a threat of violence has been made on social media against "a university near Philadelphia." The alert states that an action could take place at 2 p.m. Monday. Law enforcement officials are asking the community to be aware of their surroundings and report any suspicious activity immediately. Temple, Drexel, Penn, St. Joe's, La Salle, Montgomery County Community College, and Rowan were among schools that alerted students. SEE ALSO: Alert Sent to Philadelphia Colleges

South Jersey now has its second Medical Marijuana dispensary. Itâ€™s opening today in Bellmawr, Camden County. The people behind the Compassionate Sciences Alternative Treatment Center have worked for three years to find a town willing to accept the business and clear the myriad of state regulations to get to opening day. General Manager Michael Nelson says 100 people have signed up to get their prescriptions filled, but they can handle a lot more. The closest competitor is another non-profit that set up shop in Egg Harbor Township, Atlantic County about two years ago. Two others are operating in Woodbridge and Montclair. New Jerseyâ€™s Medical Marijuana law, believed to be one of the toughest in the nation, allows for a total of six dispensaries statewide. South Jersey now has the two locations permitted under the law.

The Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia is less than ten months away, and the host committee is confident theyâ€™ll be ready. You might think the visit of a religious leader couldnâ€™t be more different than a political gathering, but both rely on the good will of residents, the enthusiasm of volunteers and the money of businesses and foundations, all of which were heavily taxed by the Popeâ€™s visit. DNC host committee chair Ed Rendell, though, says there are enough differences to ease possible â€œevent fatigue.â€ Rendell says the Convention will be a smaller event, with activity and security focused on the stadium area. Rendell says the committee is about a quarter of the way to its $85-million goal. He adds itâ€™s also already signed up 900 volunteers, again drawing on a very different pool of people.
