The World Meeting of Families is hoping to appear in the Guinness Book of World Records by the end of the week. It has been months in the making and many hands have played a part in finishing a special mural commemorating the visit of Pope Francis to Philadelphia. Artist Cesar Viveros, who was commissioned by the Philadelphia Mural Arts program, is supervising the painting of his work – broken into panels which are being placed on the walls of St. Malachy School. Viveros is recruiting participants in the World Meeting congress at the Pennsylvania Convention Center to put a paint brush to work and help him surpass 2,500 people contributing to the mural.

For the last few days the Philadelphia Parking Authority has been hard at working removing cars from their designated no park zone in anticipation of the Pope’s visit. On Monday that area expanded to north and south of the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. On Tuesday evening, towing went into effect on 12th Street to 3rd Street. If your car is towed, you will be subject to a $76 fine, $175 in towing fees, and storage fees and your vehicle will be taken to one of three storage lots around the city. Thousands packed the Philadelphia Convention Center on Tuesday to celebrate official opening of the World Meeting of Families. Out of the thousands in town, Noel Zemborain, her husband, and four kids stand out. They don’t stand out because they share a home city with Pope Francis, but because they started their trip to Philadelphia in a 1980 Volkswagen van back in March. Zemborain and her husband, Alfredo Walker, quit their jobs, drained their savings, and traveled from Buenos Aires through South America and into Mexico before reaching the United States three weeks ago. They clocked about 14,000 miles, and their infamous van broke down several times on the way. For more information on the family, they created a blog to document their travels.
