Chester Motorcycle Cop Hit-And-Run; Pope Francis Campgrounds Canceled; Please Touch Files Bankruptcy

Chester police are looking for a driver who struck a motorcycle officer this afternoon and then fled the scene. It happened before 3 p.m. at the intersection of 4th and Morton Streets in Chester. The officer was taken to Crozer Chester Medical Center with minor injuries. He was alert and conscious. Authorities are searching for a late 90's or early 2000's burgundy Pontiac, possibly a Grand Prix, with a green hood and/or trunk. The car fled towards Industrial Highway.

The plans for a campground in East Fairmount Park for visitors during Pope Francis' visit have been canceled, just two days after it was announced. The idea for the campgrounds has been floating around for months although the World Meeting of Families formally announced the "Francis Fields Campground" on Wednesday. For $199 (more to park a car), campers would have had access to restrooms, showers, vendors, grills, etc. from Sept. 24th - 28th. Hotels cost at least that much a night. Francis Fields was supposed to cater to 16,000 visitors. Today, the company in charge, Endless Summer Productions, decided against the idea. Here is their statement:

After reviewing the plan and due to limited sales for Francis Fields, ESM Productions have elected to cancel the campground accommodations at Francis Fields. Philadelphia has plenty of accommodations to offer all those who are making the trip to The World Meeting of Families for the papal events.

Philadelphia's Please Touch Museum filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Friday. The museum had been trying to restructure $60 million in bond debt over the past two years. It reached a settlement with the majority of it's bondholders. The museum will hold a $10 million fundraising campaign that will last through March 2016. This will not affect the experience of the visitors and the museum will remain open. Sally W. Stetson, Chair of the Board of Directors said in a statement, â€œTo be very clear, the Museum will remain open. We are simply entering into a process to resolve the institutionâ€™s debt and position ourselves for lasting growth and sustainability. When the process is complete, the Museum will be on stable financial ground, have a strong foundation for the future and offer expanded programming.â€
