King of Prussia Apartment Fire, Port Richmond Bar Fight Shooting, PA Budget Veto Override Fails

Around 1:25 a.m. Wednesday morning, crews responded to a 2 alarm fire in King of Prussia at an apartment complex. Dozens of residents were evacuated from their building apartments. All people appear to have been evacuated with no injuries. Crews are on scene investigating the cause of the fire.

A man remains in critical condition after being shot 3 times Tuesday night outside a Port Richmond Bar. This happened just before midnight on the 2000 block of Allegheny Avenue in Port Richmond. Police say the situation started with a fist fight outside the bar between 2 men. During the fight, the shooter fired a gun at the victim. During the altercation, the victim attempted to get inside the bar, but was struck while doing so. Police say at least 2 shots were fired towards the bar. The victim was shot multiple times in the abdomen. Police arrived on scene, and the victim was transported to Temple University hospital.

Lacking Democratic votes for the two-thirds majority required, Pennsylvania House Republicans have failed in their unprecedented attempt to partially override Governor Wolf’s eight week old veto of the state budget.
Democrats, including Governor Wolf, declared unconstitutional the effort, on a selective line by line basis, to partially override Wolf’s veto of the budget. After emerging from a brief and unproductive budget negotiating session Tuesday, the governor declined to comment whether the override effort might complicate talks. “I don’t know why they’re doing it. I wouldn’t care to infer anything from what they’re doing.” House Republicans denied that the effort was unconstitutional, and some, like Scott Petri of Bucks County, suggested it shouldn’t matter. “And I say, who would bring that challenge? And shame on them if they do.” Republicans say overriding the veto of budget lines with agreed-to spending levels would have been the quickest way to get money to struggling human service agencies.
