Papal Visit Playbook, AG Kane Hearing, Papal Visit Blessing Items

The Papal Visit Playbook for Philadelphia area residents goes online today at noon. World Meeting of Families Executive Director Donna Farrell says the "playbook" has been in the works for many weeks and she hopes it will answer any questions residents may have. "In information, the papal visit playbook is going to include a complete outline of the event itself, recommendations for how residents can participate in all of this, the transportation options, emergency notification information, city service information and many additional resources to support residents," Farrell says. "There's even pet care information." Farrell says it will be updated regularly, right up to the weekend of the Pope's visit, September 26th and 27th. That weekend, print copies will be available. You'll find it at: http://www.worldmeeting2015.org/papalplaybook

A preliminary hearing is scheduled today for embattled Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane. The hearing will be in the Montgomery County Courthouse, in one of the larger courtrooms rather than in the typical district judge’s office — an effort to accommodate the crush of reporters expected for the hearing, where the prosecution will have to show they have enough evidence for the case to proceed to trial. Kane is charged with leaking secret grand jury information in an effort to get back at another prosecutor, and then lying to cover it up. But Kane vows to continues to fight the charges: “I am innocent of any wrongdoing. I neither conspired with anyone nor conspired with anyone to do anything illegal or unlawful.” Kane claims the charges are part of an attempt to intimidate and embarrass her as an effort to prevent her from releasing pornographic and offensive emails her office discovered on government computers.

Men and women are getting ready for the Pope’s upcoming visit to Philadelphia, partially by buying items to take downtown. As the Papal visit gets ever closer, more and more people are heading to local stores and gift shops for Pope-related items. Russ Davis, owner of the St. Jude Religious Stores, says now customers are focusing on smaller items they can carry with them into Philadelphia and past securtiy, so they can receive a Papal blessing: “Now as we’re getting closer to the Holy Father’s visit, we’re finding that they are buying more items like medals, rosaries, things that they can actually take down and have blessed something that they’re going to wear, something that they are going to use.” He says when it was first announced the Pope was coming, popular items to buy included Bobbleheads and small plush dolls.
