PHL and Hotel Hospitality Training, Papal Rally Bus, Battleship NJ Offers Bunks For Papal Visit

As Philadelphia prepares for the visit of Pope Francis, hospitality workers in the city are getting a refresher course inâ€¦.hospitality! Communications pro Brian Shapiro is training Philadelphia International Airport workers and hotel staffers that empathy and active listening will help them solve problems for stressed or travel-weary visitors. At the airport, he's holding 30 training sessions for 900 people ahead of the Popeâ€™s visit. Shapiro advises workers to control their response to stress by breathing, to have empathy through listening, and to solve problems by asking questions.

As we now know, getting to Philadelphia during Pope Francisâ€™ visit may be a daunting task. But there is one company giving the visitors the power to get to the city. Rally Bus is a way for the crowd to determine where a bus will pick them up and drop them off. So far, hundreds have signed up to wheel their way to Philly. People have asked to set rally points at their local parishes. Ticket prices average around $40.

The Battleship New Jersey, in Camden, is offering a place for guests to reside during the World Meeting of Families and papal visit at the end of September. It includes a tour of the Battleship, a ride in the flight simulator and the chance to sleep in the bunks that the sailors of the USS New Jersey once did. Although the Ben Franklin Bridge will be closed the weekend of September 26-27, those wishing to see Pope Francis can walk or ride bikes across the bridge into Philadelphia.
