Hamels' Departure Brings Young Talent; Heat Wave Plus; Fattah Indictment

Cole Hamels is headed to the Texas Rangers. The Phillies ace pitcher was a hot commodity on the trade block as several teams in the playoff hunt made offers. In the end Texas offered the most attractive package in the trade. The Phillies will send Hamels and reliever Jake Diekman and get five prospect from the Rangers including three of their best young players plus pitcher Matt Harrison. Nick Williams (OF), Jerad Eickhoff (SP) and Jorge Alfaro (C).

Philadelphia is going through the dog days of summer. Excessive heat warnings are in effect again for today. In fact a look at the extended forecast shows that daytime high temperatures will top 90 degrees for at least the next 7 days. In this heat wave, limit your midday outdoor activity, drink plenty of water, and check on the elderly.

Congressman Chaka Fattah and four associates - Bonnie Bowser, Karen Nicholas, Herbert Vederman and Robert Brand - were hit with 29-count federal indictment over a 1 million dollar loan Fattah received during his failed mayoral campaign in 2007. Fattah has resigned from his post on House Appropriations Committee. His wife, NBC 10 news anchor Renee Chenault-Fattah is on leave from her duties at the station.
