Kingsessing Fire Injures One, PA Budget Veto Override, Fired Waldron Mercy Teacher Speaks

A firefighter was injured early Tuesday morning while fighting a blaze that broke out in in a home on the 5900 block of Kingsessing Avenue around 3:30am Tuesday. Everyone was able to get out of the burning home before they arrived, but one firefighter sustained a minor injury. The cause may be suspicious in nature, as officials say the house that caught on fire has been a problem house for police in the past.

Pennsylvania House Speaker Mike Turzai says an attempt to override Governor Wolf’s veto of a Republican-passed budget could be in the offing if further negotiations do not produce an agreement. Speaking at Harrisburg’s monthly Press Club luncheon, Allegheny County Republican Mike Turzai, the speaker of the state House, continued to defend the GOP-passed budget vetoed by the governor. Turzai later clarified that budget talks will continue.

A Catholic educator fired from a school on the Main Line is speaking out. Margie Winters told CBS 3’s Pat Ciarrocchi about her life, her marriage, and the hurt she feels about losing the job she’s loved. June 22nd, Margie Winters was fired as Director of Religious Education at Waldron Mercy Academy in Merion over her same sex marriage. Margie believes that the tipping point on her firing from Waldron was a phone call that was made to the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, complaining about her marriage to Andrea. She said she’s not angry about losing her job, but she is hurt.
