NY Inmate David Sweat Captured, NJ Power Outage Continues, Kensington Shooting

Gov. Andrew Cuomo said "a nightmare is finally over" Sunday evening, following the capture of David Sweat, the second of two convicted murderers who staged a brazen escape three weeks ago from a maximum-security prison upstate. Sweat was shot and captured near the Canadian border Sunday, two days after his fellow inmate, Richard Matt, was killed in a confrontation with law enforcement officers. Sweat was only a mile and a half from the Canadian border when he was apprehended. At the news conference, Cuomo said an investigation will be conducted into all systems of the prison. He says there are still many questions about the convicts' escape.

Sunday was just another day without power for tens of thousands of South Jersey residents, especially in Gloucester County, nearly a week after nasty storms tore through the region.
The frustration remains high for many Atlantic City Electric customers, in the dark since last Tuesday. Gloucester County was hit the hardest, particularly Pitman, and the Townships of Mantua, Washington, Greenwich and Deptford. A spokesman with the utility says the rain this weekend hasn’t helped the cleanup effort.

Police say a man is fighting for his life after he was shot late Sunday night in the Kensington section of Philadelphia. This happened just after 11 p.m. outside a bar on the 3000 block Frankford Avenue near East Oreland Street. Police say they found the victim in a beer takeout store with a gunshot wound to his abdomen. He was taken to Temple Hospital where he is in extremely critical condition. Weapons were recovered, according to police, as an investigation continues.
