PECO Power Restoration, Nutter Tax Lien Online Auction, Rape Offender Rights Bill

PECO says it's an all hands on deck effort as they work to restore electricity. 200 local contractors joined their crews to assist with restoration efforts. In addition to that, there are 500 field personal who are coming from utilities from Ohio, Kentucky, West Virginia and New York. But PECO officials say power restoration is going to take some time.
A state of emergency has been declared in Delaware County. To help assist, officials set up an emergency shelter at the Brookhaven Borough Hall. They are offering a place for residents to cool off and charge their phones

For the first time in nearly two decades, the city is selling tax liens on foreclosed properties. The goal is more money for the school district, but critics of the effort hope it doesn’t backfire. The Nutter Administration is running an online auction of tax liens on about 1,000 properties, mostly commercial parcels, that concludes on Monday. The effort was driven by City Council leaders who believe that upwards of $30 million dollars could be brought in for the cash-starved School District by selling liens.
The last time the city sold tax liens was during the tenure of then-mayor Ed Rendell. Successful bidders in the sale win the right to collect back taxes on the property but do not win the property itself. The outright sale of foreclosed properties is handled by the Sheriff’s Office.

The state Senate has voted unanimously to send the House a bill that would eliminate the parental rights of offenders in cases where a child is conceived by rape. Republican Senator Randy Vulakovich says if the parental rights of the rapist are terminated, so is the obligation to pay child support to the victim. The bill sponsored by Vulakovich corrects what victim advocates have called a bizarre loophole in Pennsylvania law, by allowing the courts to terminate a convicted rapist’s parental rights while maintaining the offender’s obligation to pay child support. The bill now goes to the state House for consideration.
