Salvation Army Collapse Memorial; Lawndale Pizza Suspect Identified; New Jersey Truck Ring Indicted

A ceremony was held today to mark the second anniversary of the building collapse tragedy that killed six and hurt a dozen more at 22nd and Market Streets. On June 5, 2013 a wall of a building being demolished came crashing down on the adjacent Salvation Army thrift store full of shoppers and employees. A design for a memorial was unveiled at today's ceremony. It will consist of three panels of black granite with six colorful windows representing those who died. The families chose the colors for their loved ones. The memorial is meant as a tribute to those lost but also as a reminder to never let this happen again. The whole thing will cost $1.3 million. Philadelphia Police have identified the suspect who was shot and killed by police after firing blank rounds at an off-duty officer while robbing a pizza place in the Lawndale section last night. The man has been identified as 33-year-old Andrew Ellerbe from the 2300 block of North Garnet Street. It happened just before 11:30 p.m. at Rising Sun Pizza on the 6900 block of Rising Sun Avenue. A detective had just ordered when Ellerbe and another man entered the store. They took $20 from the detective's hand and put a gun to his head ordering him to the ground. They then turned to the counter. At that point the detective identified himself as an officer and pulled out his Glock hand gun. Ellerbe fired two shots at the detective who returned fire. The men fled the restaurant. Ellerbe was found collapsed nearby and died. The other suspect is still at large. Ellerbe's revolver was loaded with blank rounds.

New Jersey authorities have indicted a 12-member ring of truck thieves responsible for stealing $1.5 million in goods over the past three years. Most of the men are from Northern New Jersey and New York. They stole items from tractor trailers in New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. The items includes bedding, bicycle parts, perfume, and fish oil supplements. They also recovered $120,000 worth of catalytic converters and more than $23,000 worth of Guinness Stout beer. They face charges including conspiracy, money laundering, theft, fencing and burglary.
