It was a special deal Tuesday for all of the folks curious about Philadelphia's Bike Share program, which rolled out in late April. On the first Tuesday of every month, through 10 p.m., new riders can walk up to those Indego blue racks, snag a bike, and try it out for $1 for 30-minutes. Normal pricing kicks in after the first half-hour. In just over a month’s worth of operations, 65,000 trips were taken from dozens of docking stations, including about 11,000 walk-up users trying it out, one at a time.

Students in North Philadelphia enjoyed a paint day Tuesday working on a mural to celebrate the upcoming visit of Pope Francis to the city. Students from Saint Malachy and Saint Veronica Schools traded pencils for paint brushes to color 20 panels measuring five feet by five feet. Panels are penciled in with design and numbers.
When finished, there will be 150 colorful, hand-painted panels in a mural that’s about faith.

Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf has made good on his promise to file an application with the federal government to create a state-run health insurance exchange. A Wolf spokesman says it’s only in the event of a Supreme Court ruling that would affect subsidies, but Republicans are skeptical. The Wolf administration says the application to set up a state-run exchange is only intended to protect Pennsylvania residents in the event of a U.S. Supreme Court ruling that could wipe out health insurance subsidies in states that don’t have their own exchanges.
