Beau Biden, Son of VP, Dies Of Cancer; NJ Trooper Dies in Deer Crash; Teen Girl Injured in Shootout

Beau Biden, son of Vice President of Joe Biden, died on Saturday at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Washington, D.C. after suffering with brain cancer. He was 46. He was first diagnosed with cancer 2 years ago when he underwent surgery to removed a small lesion, followed by chemotherapy/radiation. Biden graduated from the University of Pennsylvania undergraduate and Syracuse law school, and worked for the Department of Justice. In 2003, he joined the Delaware Army National Guard and was actively deployed to Iraq in 2008. He was able to travel back to Washington, DC in January of 2009 from Iraq for his father's inauguration. Beau Biden successfully ran for the office of Attorney General in Delaware twice. He forwent a third term in 2014, saying he was going to run for Governor of Delaware in 2016. Biden was a married father of two.

A NJ State Trooper was killed and his partner injured when their patrol car hit a deer early Saturday morning. It happened just before 1 a.m. as the troopers were patrolling along I-195 in Upper Freehold Township, Monmouth County. 24-year-old Trooper Anthony Raspa of Middlesex died in the accident. His partner, 29-year-old Trooper Gene Hong, suffered lacerations and a neck injury. He was treated at the hospital and released. The deer ran out onto the highway and collided with the patrol car. The cruiser lost control and went off into the woods, slamming into some trees. The impact with the trees is what likely killed Trooper Raspa.

Raspaâ€™s family released the following statement:
â€œToday our family lost an incredible son, brother, grandson, cousin, friend and person. Anthony was a phenomenal young man with a heart of gold and a passion for life. While he is no longer physically with us, we are so grateful for the 24 years of love and loyalty we shared with him. Anthony was passionate about law enforcement and took great pride in being a NJ State Trooper. He will forever be in our minds and in our hearts. The family is so appreciative of all of the love and support. We ask that you respect our privacy at this time as we continue to grieve.â€

A shootout in Port Richmond on Friday night left a 13-year-old girl critically wounded. It happened on the 3500 block of Stouton Street around 11:30 p.m. The victim was sitting on the front steps with two other young males. Witnesses say that two males came running down the street shooting at each other. The victim was hit in the abdomen and rushed to Temple Hospital. She underwent surgery and is in stable but critical condition. Police found over a dozen shell casings along the block. Bullets hit several parked cars and a house. Police are also looking at surveillance video from the area to help identify the suspects. Right now they only have a vague description of the shooters. If anyone has information they are encouraged to contact Philadelphia Police.
