Reward $2500 in Gun Store Robbery; Fire at South Philly Refinery; Peregrine Falcons on City Hall

There is now a $2,500 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible in the burglary of a Delaware County gun store early Thursday morning. It happened around 4:15 a.m. on Thursday at the Suburban Armory gun shop on the 1000 block of McDade Boulevard in Collingdale. The burglars were caught on surveillance tape breaking in the front window, smashing gun cases, and making off with about 19 handguns. They left in a maroon Pontiac Montana minivan with partial plate YZ and a light colored GM sedan. Fire crews responded to a one-alarm fire at a South Philadelphia refinery on Friday afternoon. It broke out at the old Sunoco refinery, now know as the Philadelphia Energy Solutions Girard Point refinery, on the 3000 block of Penrose Avenue around 5:40 pm. A mechanical failure of a pump seal caused crude oil to leak and ignite. Think black smoke poured into the air. The refinery's own firefighters were able to bring the fire under control around 6:30 p.m. The Philadelphia Fire Department was called in as standby.

Officers with the Pennsylvania Game Commission took to the top of Philadelphia's City Hall Friday morning for some conservation work with one of Pennsylvania's endangered species. The tower of city hall has served as a perfect nesting place for a mating pair of the world's fastest animal, the peregrine falcon, the past few years. Friday's mission was to perform a medical check and place ID bands on the 4 chicks living in the nest. As two officers fended off the parents with brooms, Art McMorris, the commission's peregrine falcon coordinator climbed out to the nest. He placed each chick in a mesh net and handed it inside for the medical test and banding. They all passed the tests. The ID bands will help researchers track the birds as they go through their lives. These chicks are 21-days old. They will be fully grown by 1-month, and flying within 3 weeks. There were three females and one male in the nest. Watch the whole process in the video below:
