NJ State Police Ghost Cars; Preliminary Hearing Waived Temple Hit-and-Run; 8 Injured SEPTA Bus Crash

New Jersey State Police have introduced a new line of police cruisers that will hit the highways this weekend for the unofficial start of summer. They are calling them "ghost cars" and their intention is to go unnoticed by unruly and dangerous drivers. From afar, the Chevrolet Caprices appear to be unmarked vehicles, but up close you can see a dark grey state police logo on the doors of the black car. On the NJ state police Facebook page many drivers are calling the new cars a form of entrapment or have some other problem with them. The police have used unmarked cars for years. State police captain Stephen Jones, "How are we entraping somebody if we're sitting on the roads and they're blowing by us?" he asks. "We're letting them exhibit their natural tendencies when they think nobody else is looking." They will be out on the roads all weekend long and hope for a safe holiday weekend. Keep an eye out if you are traveling to the shore, you may or may not see one of the new cruisers.

18-year-old Rashan Roberts waived his right to a preliminary hearing today. Roberts is charged with leaving the scene after hitting 22-year old Rachel Hall, the Temple University senior who was struck while riding her bicycle on campus last month. Roberts fled the scene because he was driving with a learner's permit and did not have a properly licensed driver inside the vehicle. Defense lawyer Michael Hanamirian says his client is remorseful and hopes that Hall makes a full recovery soon. It is likely that he will plead guilty before trial. Defense tried to get bail reduced but was denied. Hall is still unconscious and unresponsive.

Eight people were injured after a car hit a bus this afternoon in Hunting Park. It happened around 2:30 pm at Germantown Avenue and Tioga Street. The SEPTA Route 23 bus was traveling south on Germantown Avenue when it was struck by a Honda sedan. The car sustained significant front end damage. All 8 injured were passengers on the bus, no one in the car was hurt. They were taken to Temple University Hospital, Einstein Medical Center, and St. Christopher's Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
