B.B. King, whose scorching guitar licks and heartfelt vocals made him the idol of generations of musicians and fans while earning him the nickname King of the Blues, died late Thursday at home in Las Vegas. Although he had continued to perform well into his 80s, the 15-time Grammy winner suffered from diabetes and had been in declining health during the past year. He collapsed during a concert in Chicago last October, later blaming dehydration and exhaustion. He had been in hospice care at his Las Vegas home. B.B. King was 89.

One of the victims from Tuesday’s Amtrak train wreck files the first lawsuit against the company in connection with the crash for an unspecified amount of money. Bruce Phillips is an Amtrak dispatcher from Philadelphia. He was on his way to work in New York when he sustained massive injuries in the wreck including head trauma and lung damage. In an emailed statement, Amtrak says they do not comment on pending litigation.

There is new street art in Manayunk designed to direct visitors to the pumping station and performing arts center on Venice Island. The water-themed vinyl decals on sidewalks and walls lead Main Street visitors to the new construction along the Manayunk Canal. Jane Lipton, executive director of the Manayunk Development Corporation says what’s going on is the new confluence of stormwater management, recreation space and performing arts center that is Venice Island. The blue-green street art along Main, Lock and Cotton Streets points the way.
