| Eight Amtrak 188 Deaths ID'd; 6 Philly Narcotics Cops Acquitted; Septuagenarian Pot Grower Busted |

Earlier today an 8th fatality was discovered in the wreckage of the Amtrak 188 train derailment in Port Richmond section of Philadelphia. 43 passengers remain in the hospital following Tuesday night's crash, 8 are in critical condition. 238 passengers and 5 crew were aboard the train when it derailed along a curve in the Frankford Junction section of track. All passengers have been accounted for at this time. The eight victims have been identified as Justin Zemser, 20, U.S. Navy Midshipman, Rachel Jacobs, 39, ApprenNet CEO, Abid Giliani, 55, Wells Fargo, Jim Gaines, 48, Associated Press, Laura Finamore, 47, Doglaston, New York, Derrick Griffith, 42, Medgar Evers College, Giuseppe Piras, Italian national, and Bob Gildersleeve, 45, Ecolab. The NTSB confirmed yesterday that the train was traveling 106 mph in the 50 mph zone, and that the engineer had activated the emergency brakes just before the accident only reducing it to 102 at crash time. Today they said the train was accelerating from 70 mph to 100 in the last 60 seconds prior to the crash. The black box has been sent to Washington, DC for more analysis. They will interview the engineer and are conducting interviews with survivors. This section of track does not have the automatic speed reduction system that is in place in many places along the Northeast Corridor. Amtrak service between Philadelphia and New York will be suspended until at least Monday, probably Tuesday. SEPTA Trenton Regional Rail is also suspended.
Six former Philadelphia narcotics officers were acquitted of all charges by a federal jury in a corruption case after a week of deliberations. Thomas Liciardello, Brian Reynolds, Perry Betts, Michael Spicer, Linwood Norman and John Speiser were accused of stealing over $400,000 from drug suspects between 2006 and 2012. It was alleged that they would falsify reports, rough up suspects, extort their victims, even rob their homes after locking them up. The jury did not believe the string of admitted drug dealers and the disgraced former squad member who testified against them. The officers were cleared of all 26 counts of the racketeering indictment. Some of the defendants have expressed interest in seeking their old jobs. SEE ALSO: 6 Philly Narcotic Officers Arrested
Berks County police have arrested a 70-year-old man after discovering a marijuana grow operation in his house while responding to a fire call at his Douglassville home. On Wednesday evening around 7:45 p.m. a neighbor called 911 to report a fire on the unit block of Lehman Street. The neighbor knocked on the door to tell Giau Van Doan that there was a fire, but he closed the door on him. When firefighters arrived they forced their way inside and found the fire in the basement near the electrical panel which had been tampered with. That's when they noticed the large scale grow operation with high intensity lights, irrigation, exhaust, as well as bags of packaged marijuana. There were around 500 plants, 15 baggies of packaged pot, and $5,000 in cash. He was arrested and charged with causing a catastrophe, manufacture, delivery and possession with the intent to deliver marijuana and possession of marijuana.
