Fox has announced that it will be canceling American Idol after next year's 15th season. Ryan Seacrest will return as the host of the show he's led since its debut in 2002. Current judges, Jennifer Lopez, Harry Connick Jr. and Keith Urban, will also be returning for the final season. Ratings have dwindled in recent years for the groundbreaking singing competition. It peaked in the 5th season at 31.1 million viewers/week, dropping to only 11 million/week this past year. Idol spawned a variety of singing/talent contest types shows that remain popular on television today. It also discovered Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson, Chris Daughtry, Adam Lambert, Katherine McPhee, Scottie McCreery, Phillip Phillips, Kellie Pickler, Fantasia Barrino, Clay Aiken, and Ruben Studdard who have all gone on to success in the music/entertainment business. Winners have combined for 13 Grammys, 7 of which are Underwood's. The show hasn't produced a new Grammy award winner in a decade.
METRIC released a new single “The Shade†on Monday. The synth-heavy track with a driving rhythm has understated verses with a soaring chorus. There is a retro feel during the hook with a frustrating “what-is-that-video-game?†sample that will have you trying to guess the 80's Nintendo game it could have been lifted from. The band says that their 6th studio album is coming soon. Listen:
