Point Breeze House Collapse, Fairhill Triple Shooting, Camden Condo Plans Slowed

Bricks rained down on a local street when the front of a house collapsed overnight. The row home on the 1400 block of Bouvier Street in Point Breeze was vacant at the time, already in danger of collapsing. The collapse comes on the same day Mayor Nutter, Philadelphia Licenses & Inspections, and the fire department are holding an event to talk about the city's response to dangerous buildings in the city. L&I and the fire department will also announce that they will now conduct joint inspections of vacant properties.

Philadelphia Police are searching for evidence following a deadly triple shooting in Philadelphia’s Fairhill neighborhood. Police say three men were injured in a shootout overnight, and one of them has died. The two surviving men are still in the hospital, and police say they are being treated as suspects at this point. Police say the shootout started just after 12:30 Wednesday morning on the 3100 block of North 6th Street. Officers on routine patrol heard the gunshots and found three injured men when they arrived on the scene. Police say a man in his 20s was shot multiple times in the head and body. He was pronounced dead at the hospital. A 22-year-old and a 23-year-old were also shot. Both were taken to Temple Hospital where they remain in stable condition this morning. Police recovered three guns from the scene. Two of them were found under a van and one was found in a recycling bin. There are businesses in the area, and police are hoping they have surveillance video that captured the shooting.

The long-predicted Camden renaissance faces a serious challenge. A ten-story building downtown that was seen as a key element for revitalization sits vacant and decaying and has been declared dangerous by city inspectors. The building at Front and Cooper Street is owned by the Camden Redevelopment Agency. In September, the city’s code enforcement division told the agency the building was dangerous and should be demolished. The Agency has been trying to raise money to clean up environmental contamination at the site so it can turn the building over to developer Carl Dranoff, to turn it into luxury condominiums.
