Philadelphia Police estimate around 600 people gathered at Dillworth Park this afternoon next to City Hall in Center City Philadelphia for a peaceful protest called "Philly is Baltimore" to show support and stand in solidarity with recent protests in Baltimore following the death of Freddie Gray. The rally drew citizens of all racial/ethnic backgrounds calling attention to recent negative police/citizen confrontations, many of which ended in death, and the perceived injustice when minorities are involved. Philadelphia Democratic mayoral candidates Anthony Williams and Nelson Cruz were seen at the rally. Gray died of a spinal injury after being arrested in Baltimore earlier this month. The Baltimore police handed over their investigation to the state's attorney today who will decide on possible charges for the 6 officers involved. The US Department of Justice and FBI are also conducting investigations into how Gray sustained his injuries and the police officers' procedures before, during, and after his arrest and transport.

*The protest is moving around the city so watch for street closures this evening. Some heading East on Spring Garden, others West on Locust through Rittenhouse. 7:18pm the two groups have reconvened at 16th and Cherry streets. Attempted to get on Vine Expressway. 9:08pm Protest moves back to City Hall, then west on JFK. 9:58pm Still winding through Center City, crowd thinning. Police made 2 arrests this evening.

A Camden County police officer had to break a window of a car to rescue a baby stuck inside the hot vehicle on Thursday morning. It happened outside the CVS and TD Bank at 5th Street and Mickle Boulevard at 11:45 a.m. Officer Belinda Villegas-Ramos was on security detail when she found the 4-month-old baby boy inside a Jeep crying and sweating. She broke the window and took the baby inside the bank to cool down before being transported to Cooper University Hospital. The mother was arrested and charged with child endangerment. The baby is expected to be ok.

A South Jersey mother-of-three has been charged with DWI, the assault of three police officers, and endangering the welfare of her children after being pulled over in Vineland on Monday. It happened at 7:55 p.m. at E. Plum and N. 7th Streets. 28-year-old Charmaine Pitts (see photo below) was pulled over with her three young children and another adult in the car. While being arrested for driving whille intoxicated she resisted, punching one officer and spitting on others. Police also found marijuana in her coat pocket. She is charged with Aggravated Assault/Throwing Bodily Fluids on Police, Assault on Police, Possess Marijuana/Hash Under 50 Grams, Resisting Arrest and Endangering the Welfare of Children. Pitts is being held in Cumberland County Jail on $50,000 bail.

Tonight,
Mostly Cloudy, temperatures in the mid/upper 50's this evening in Center City.
