Four children were rescued after being locked in the basement by their mother. Police responded to a house on the 1900 block of E. Atlantic St. in Kensington around 1:30 pm Sunday after receiving a 911 call from one of the trapped children. Firefighters were able to get into the rowhome through a second floor window and open the front door. Police let the kids out of the basement. The 13-year-old boy, 12-year-old girl, 10-year-old girl and nine-year-old girl had been intentionally locked down there at 11 p.m. on Saturday night. They did not have access to a bathroom or food. The mother was tracked down and is expected to face charges including multiple counts of child neglect and endangering the welfare of a child. The children appeared to be unharmed but were taken to St. Christopher’s Hospital as a precaution.

UPDATE: Charnae Lee, 29, is charged with four contacts of: Unlawful Restraint, False Imprisonment, Endangering the Welfare of a Child and Recklessly Endangering another Person.

A young man with cerebral palsy celebrated an accomplishment earned only by a select few, even among the able bodied. 20-year-old Christian Matkovich earned the rank of Eagle Scout and was awarded at his troop's court of honor in King of Prussia on Sunday. Christian suffers from a severe form of cerebral palsy that keeps him wheelchair bound and requires the use of a computer for speech. Despite these set backs, he has been able to attend all meetings, go on camping trips, earn merit badges, and complete the requirements of the ranks since he joined scouting at age 6. For his Eagle Scout project, Christian collected and organized school supplies for kids in developing nations. He joins his father and two older brothers as Eagle Scouts.

Two people have died and three are injured after a two car crash on I-295 in South Jersey Sunday morning. It happened around 8:20 a.m. in the southbound lanes near Gibbstown, Greenwich Township, Gloucester County between exit 17 and 18. A Lexus in the center lane hit an Acura in the left lane which crashed into the guard rail. 22-year-old Jasmine Gonzalez, driver, and 22-year-old Nkemjika Anyim, passenger, were killed in the Acura. The rear passenger in the Acura as well as the driver and passenger of the Lexus were injured and taken to Cooper University Hospital. Investigators are trying to determine the cause of the crash.
