MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred says that Pete Rose will be allowed to participate in activities at this year's All-Star Game in Cincinnati. Rose agreed on a lifetime ban from baseball in 1989 for betting on the game, specifically on games involving the Reds when he was a player/manager. Rose's ban has kept him ineligible for the Hall of Fame despite being the all-time career hits leader, 17-time all-star, 3-time World Series winner, 1963 NL Rookie of the Year, and 1973 NL MVP. Rose won two World Series as a member of the 'Big Red Machine' in the mid-70's. He was also a key member of the 1980 World Series Champion Philadelphia Phillies and their 1983 NL Championship. Manfred is also going through decades old files and reviewing Rose's case as it relates to his ban from baseball. Rose will turn 74 this month. Rose's specific participation in the festivities surrounding the July 14th game have not be decided.

Radnor Township detectives are looking for a burglary suspect who got away on the R100 Norristown High Speed line. Last Friday morning April 17th around 11 a.m., the 79-year-old homeowner returned to her home on Hawthorne Road to discover her front door had been broken. A man inside was filling one of her suitcases with jewelry, electronics, and money. He told her to, "Get inside and don't say anything." She ignored the man and fled to a neighbor's to call 911. Witnesses say the burglar headed toward the rail line. SEPTA surveillance video caught an image of him with the suitcase riding the train. (see picture below) He took the line toward Upper Darby and got off at the Parkview station. There is a $2,500 reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction. Anyone with information is urged to contact Radnor police at 610-688-0503.

A South Philadelphia community is mourning after a long-time, well-known, and well-liked resident was killed in a house fire on Thursday. 69-year-old Joe DeRosa died in a fire at his home on the 1100 block of Federal Street around 5:15 p.m. He was staying with his son's family and a family member called 911. Firefighters say the fire broke out in and was contained to a second floor bedroom where they found DeRosa. He was transported to Methodist Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The investigators have not determined the cause of the fire but friends say he was a smoker and it might have been accidental. DeRosa was a regular at the La Casa Dei Pazzi social club down the street, father of two, and grandfather of three.
