Police Involved Frankford Shooting, @AwarenessCone, Valley Forge Road Bridge Rehab

Philadelphia Police shot a man they say was armed with two guns late Thursday night in the Frankford section of the city. Officers were responding to a call of shots fired just before midnight and found a large crowd gathered along the 1600 block of Pratt Street, near the Frankford Transportation Center. The armed suspect took off running when police arrived. Police caught up with him and ordered him to drop his weapon. He refused and was shot once in the leg. Police say the suspect did not return fire. The suspect was carrying two guns, according to police, including a Glock with an extended magazine that holds over 30 bullets. He is in stable condition. No officers were hurt during the incident and no other injuries were reported. The initial shooting police were responding to remains under investigation.

A Philadelphia woman has created a Twitter account to bring awareness to a growing number of safety cones used to alert people to problems â€” instead of fixing them. Victoria Harris created â€œ@AwarenessConeâ€ three weeks ago after she noticed more and more orange safety cones popping up around the city. It started with a large hole in a bike lane in Center City. Instead of fixing it, someone just put a safety cone in it. This isnâ€™t just a local problem. People are tweeting their cone awareness from North Carolina, Canada, and even Australia.

The morning commute is going to get messy next week, for a lot of people along the Montgomery and Chester County border, as road-work on a bridge will close Valley Forge Road in Phoenixville until at least this fall. The $1.7-million project will rehab the Route 23 Valley Forge Road bridge over Pickering Creek in Schuylkill Township between Phoenixville and Valley Forge. The 48-year-old bridge carries more than 19,000 cars a day over the Pickering Creek. Valley Forge Road will be closed between Moorehall Drive and MacAvoy lane until late this year. The official detour goes to already heavily congested roads: Route 422 to Oaks, Egypt Road to Route 29, to Bridge Street through Phoenixville.
