Search Warrants Served on Kane; Chaos in Colwyn Borough; Delco DA Employee Steals $100k

Search warrants were served on two of Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen G. Kane's offices on Friday afternoon in Harrisburg and Norristown. The purpose of the warrants was not clear as they were seeking unspecified documents and other information. This seems to be the first steps in Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman's investigation into Kane. Ferman is tasked with the decision of whether or not to charge Kane following a grand jury recommendation of the charges of perjury, obstruction, false swearing and official oppression. Also on Friday, Montgomery County Judge William Carpenter ordered Kane to appear at an April 27th hearing. Carpenter oversaw the grand jury investigation into Kane. He wants her to explain the recent firing of prosecutor James Barker, who testified before the grand jury, and whether it violated his order not to retaliate against the witnesses. Kane's office says the firing came amid 'restructuring.'

After a chaotic council meeting on Thursday night in Colwyn Borough, Delaware County, which resulted in the borough manager being fired, she locked herself inside the borough hall and stayed the night. Paula Brown finally left the building at 6 p.m. Friday saying, "I don't believe I am out of a job." The tiny borough bordering Philadelphia is known for its contentious council meetings with frequent yelling and shouting amongst members. Thursday night was no different. The night ended with a four member majority voting to fire both Brown and the code enforcement director Dan Rutland. Brown acknowledges the vote took place but says it was after the meeting adjourned and is not valid. Colwyn is $1.2 million in debt. Delaware County District Attorney Jack Whelan is aware of the many issues in the borough. A closed door meeting of council will happen on Monday and Brown plans to be there.

A 29-year employee of the Delaware County District Attorney's Office has been accused of stealing more than $100,000 in drug-forfeiture money and using it to buy tickets to concerts and sporting events and other gifts. 48-year-old Mary Elizabeth Lynch of Ridley Township is charged with receiving stolen property, forgery, and identity theft and related offenses. He bail is set at $100,000. She has used the money to buy tickets to Taylor Swift and Bob Dylan concerts and to sit front row at the Philadelphia Flyers game. Investigators also discovered around $62,000 in cash at her home, which she claims is her boyfriend's. Lynch worked as the office's financial administrator. She has admitted to failing to make deposits of numerous occasions and to stealing from the office for the past three years. She has been fired from her position. The Bucks County DA's Office will handle the case.
