Germantown Criminal Expungement Clinic, PA Medical Marijuana Hurdle, PA School Property Tax Relief

A Philadelphia Councilwoman is hosting an expungement clinic tonight in Germantown for those with a criminal past who are looking for a better future. Cindy Bass is hosting the clinic at Triumph Baptist Church from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The workshop is meant to help those with a less than spotless past get the opportunity to have a brighter future. This is the third year Bass is hosting the clinic. For more information on how to register you can call 215-686-3424.

The latest hearing on the subject suggests supporters of legislation that would legalize medical marijuana in Pennsylvania have their work cut out in the State House. Indications are that support for medical marijuana is strong in the state Senate, but members of the House seem less enthusiastic. After a lengthy hearing Wednesday during which members of law enforcement stressed the need for strict regulatory control if it is legalized, Republican Matt Baker â€“ chairman of the House Health Committee â€“ said heâ€™s still not sold on medical marijuana.

The state House majority leader says that chamber will consider its own school property tax relief measure soon, and not as part of the budget package as proposed by Governor Wolf. As part of his budget package, Governor Wolf has proposed raising the state income and sales taxes to reduce school property taxes. But House Majority Leader Dave Reed, an Indiana County Republican, says the House will soon consider its own property tax relief plan, the details of which are being hammered out by a group of 30 members.
