Woman Kidnapped, Left in Cemetery; Barricade Situation in Poplar; Coach Fires Gun at Basketball Game

Philadelphia Police are on the hunt for three suspects after a woman was kidnapped, beaten, brutalized, robbed, and eventually dumped in a cemetery. The 53-year-old victim left her work at the National Watch and Diamond Company on Jeweler's Row in Center City around 4:00 pm and was walking across the street to the parking garage when a burgundy cargo van pulled up and she was grabbed. The men put a hood over the woman's head and bound her wrists and ankles with zip ties. They demanded the keys to the store and the codes to the safe which she did not know. She was driven around in the van and kicked, hit, choked, and even tasered seven times. The abductors eventually dropped her in Mount Lawn Cemetery in Darby, but came back a short time later and picked her up again. This time they demanded her ATM pin number and made several stops to withdraw cash using her card. They dumped her again in the cemetery, but had replaced the zip ties with steel cuffs. She was able to make her way to the road where a passing motorist called police. She is in stable condition at the hospital.

Police believe they are looking for a burgundy Ford Econoline van, with white graffiti on the side and back. The suspects are described as black males. They were wearing dark clothing, ski masks, and sunglasses. They are 6'3" tall w/ muscular build, 6'0â€ w/ thin build, and 5'5â€ w/ a heavy build.

Police took nine people into custody after an armed 16-year-old fled from officers and barricaded himself inside a home in North Philadelphia on Sunday night. It started just before 8:30 p.m. near 11th and Poplar Streets. Police responded to shots being fired in the area and chased the teen suspect. He ran into a home, which wasn't his own, on the 900 block of North 11th Street. The barricade situation lasted until 9:30 pm. Police took each person out one by one. The shooter was identified as the 16-year-old boy by those at the house. He will be charged, but there is no word on the exact charges. The others were brought in for questioning. A weapon was recovered, but no shooting victims have been located.

Philadelphia Police are looking for a youth basketball coach who pulled a gun and opened fire inside a Southwest Philadelphia recreation center during a game on Saturday. It happened before 2 p.m. Saturday at the Christy Recreation Center in the 700 block of South 55th Street. The game was a league game for 14-16 year olds. At the time of the incident there were around 70 people in the gymnasium. During the second half of the game, 26-year-old coach Maurice Tavares of Chester started to argue with members of the crowd as his team fell behind. The 45-year-old coach of the opposing team tried to step in between the argument two calm things down. Tavares then pulled out the gun from his waistband and fired at the opposing coach. No one was hit by the gunfire. Tavares immediately fled the scene. A warrant has been issued for his arrest.
