Slain Darby Officer Identified; Two Die in West Goshen Plane Crash; North Philly Bakery Fire

Authorities have identified the off-duty Darby police officer who was shot and killed in his Glenolden home on Saturday afternoon. 26-year-old Darby Borough Officer Mark Hudson was found shot in the chest in an upstairs bedroom in the house on the 600 block of Magnolia Avenue around 4:30 pm Saturday. He was taken to Penn Presbyterian Hospital where he died. His girlfriend was in the house at the time and was taken into custody for questioning. There have not been any charges filed as of yet. Hudson was a 4-year veteran of the police force working part-time as an officer. He also worked as a volunteer firefighter for the Yeadon Fire Company. Hudson joined the fire company at age 16. Police are still investigating.

Two people have died after a small plane crashed in West Goshen, Chester County on Sunday afternoon. The Piper PA28 took off from Brandywine Airport around 1:40 pm and crashed just a short distance away near the intersection of Saunders Lane and Andrews Drive. Bob Fleming of the Goshen Fire Department said that witnesses who observed the plane heard it sputter before going into a nose dive. It broke up upon impact and burst into flames. The pilot and passenger were both killed. There were no other reports of injuries. No names of the victims have been released. The plane landed in a semi-wooded area just behind the senior living Harrison Hill Apartments. The FAA and NTSB will investigate the cause of the crash.

A fire destroyed a popular North Philadelphia bakery early Sunday morning. It happened around 2:30 a.m. at Deniseâ€™s Delicacies in the 2900 block of North 22nd Street at Cambria Street. It took firefighters about an hour to get the blaze under control. Residents of nearby apartments were all able to get out in time. The bakery, a neighborhood favorite, opened in 1990. The full extent of the damage is not yet known but it is severe enough that it will have to close for the busy spring holiday season which includes Easter next week and Mother's Day next month. Denise Gause, the business owner, doesn't know yet if they'll rebuild. She employed 26 people. The fire marshal is still determining the cause of the fire.
