Body of Erica Crippen Found; Officer Shoots Self in Plymouth; Fumes Sicken Paulsboro High School

The body of a missing Mount Laurel woman was found in the woods in a rural part of Maryland on Tuesday. 26-year-old Erica Crippen went missing on New Year's Eve and her husband, 28-year-old Kyle Crosby, had been charged with her murder back in mid-January. Police found Crippen in Sykesville, MD. Her body was under a pile of branches, wrapped in a blanket, with her hands, feet, and neck bound with wire, and duct tape over her mouth and nose. Investigators used the GPS inside Crosby's car to retrace his steps in the days following Crippen's disappearance. An autopsy will determine the cause of death. Crosby's mother was arrested this week for hindering the prosecution and helping conceal the crime. Officials say the timing of body's discovery is just a coincidence.

A police officer was accidentally shot in the leg inside the Plymouth Township Police department headquarters this afternoon. A Conshohocken officer was processing a prisoner at the station on the 700 block of Belvoir Road. As the officer was placing his gun back into its holster it discharged and struck him in the leg. The officer only suffered a minor graze wound and was taken to Einstein Medical Center in East Norriton in stable condition.

Fumes from a nearby refinery sent over a dozen students and staff to the hospital and closed a South Jersey high school on Wednesday. It happened at Paulsboro High School in Gloucester County. 15 students and staff were taken to area hospitals after complaining of feeling ill. The school sits next to the Paulsboro Refining Company. Earlier in the week they detected a leak in a tank and have been draining it while testing air quality levels around the community. The school building was closed for the day and aired out. Administrators do not see the problem continuing on Thursday, but will test again to make sure it is safe to open school again.

This is a statement from Paulsboro Refining Company:
On Monday we identified a leak on a tank containing partially-refined oil that caused an odor in the community. We immediately began addressing the leak and were in contact with local officials, including the police and school administrators. We have been taking readings and monitoring for odors in the community since Monday, with no detectable levels of hydrocarbons.

As of this morning we had removed most of the remaining material from the tank. We tested the roof of the tank with a monitor and measured no detectable results. We are also checking other areas of our operations for potential sources.

We will continue to work with local officials, including school administrators, to understand the issues of concern today.â€
