North Phila. 2nd Story Window Fall, Employer Mandate Problems Unseen, American Sniper Tops Again

A 2-year-old girl is recovering in the hospital after she fell from a second story window at her home in North Philadelphia. It happened around 12:30 a.m. Monday at a home along the 2100 block of Gratz Street. Police say the girl was conscious and talking after the fall. She was taken to Hahnemann Hospital in stable condition.

One month into the new year, it appears that a new provision of the Affordable Care Act, known as the employer mandate, is not creating the ripples that were predicted. The requirement that employers provide their workers with affordable insurance was postponed, and is being phased in, because of predictions it would kill jobs and cut hours. But local business groups and insurers say, so far, that hasnâ€™t happened. This year, large employers with 100 or more full-time or equivalent employees had to offer affordable insurance plans to 70 percent of their workforce. Next year, theyâ€™ll have to cover 95 percent â€” and employers with more than 50 workers will be included in the mandate.

American Sniper, made it three weekends in a row in first place at the box office by earning an estimated $32-million, setting a record for Super Bowl Weekend. The distant runner-up was the kidflick, Paddington, with $9-million. Third was the debuting teen time-travel fantasy, Project Almanac, which totaled $8-million. Fourth place went to another new attraction, the racially-themed drama, Black or White, with Kevin Costner and Octavia Spenser. It took in $7-million.
And the holdover, The Boy Next Door, rounded out the top five with $6-million. Overall, industry-wide totals were well above those of a year ago.
