A US Attorney has charged a Philadelphia doctor and his receptionist with running a 'pill mill' out of his offices in Philadelphia and Levittown. William O'Brien III, 49, a doctor of osteopathic medicine and his receptionist, 29-year-old Angela Rongione have been charged with one count of conspiracy to distribute controlled substances. O'Brien has also been charged with 26 counts of illegally distributing Xanax and oxycodone. Over the course of last year, so-called patients would come into O'Brien's offices and pay an initial fee of $250 and subsequent fees of $200 to obtain refills of these addictive narcotics without a medical examination or counseling. O’Brien faces 20 years in prison for conspiracy and five years for each count of distribution. Rongione faces 20 years for conspiracy.

Several people were injured this afternoon after a SEPTA bus collided with a car in the Hunting Park neighborhood. It happened around 4:40 p.m. at Old York Road and Erie Avenue. Five people from the Route 56 bus were taken to Temple University Hospital with minor injuries. Another person was reported injured, possibly from the car. The cause of the crash is unknown. The accident is under investigation.

Pennsylvania State Treasurer Rob McCord has stepped down from the job after serving six years in the position amid federal scrutiny. The democrat, who was currently halfway through his second term and had unsuccessfully ran against Tom Wolf for Governor, is at the center of a probe looking at the theft of campaign funds. McCord, a former venture capitalist from Bryn Mawr, says he'll return to the private sector. Wolf credited McCord with modernizing the Treasury Department. The Governor will have to appoint a replacement, with Senate confirmation, to serve the remaining two years of his term.
