Temple Student Falls 8 Floors, Dies; Eric Holder Holds Meeting; Teen Girl Sentenced in Brick Attack

An 18-year-old Temple University student fell to her death from a Center City building and landed on a pedestrian walking on the sidewalk below. It happened around 6 pm Thursday night near 16th and Chestnut Streets. Rebecca Kim was visiting two male friends who attend the Art Institute of Philadelphia and live on the eighth floor. It is believed that she was either leaning out the window or was on the two foot wide ledge outside taking photos and slipped as she tried to get back inside. Kim struck a 44-year-old woman walking along 16th Street as she fell to the ground. The student was taken to Jefferson University Hospital where she died from her injuries. The pedestrian was taken to Hahnemann University Hospital in stable condition and is expected to be ok. Temple University has released the following statement:

Attorney General Eric Holder was in Philadelphia on Thursday as part of a series of meetings between the community and law enforcement in cities across the country. Holder has already visited Atlanta, Cleveland, Memphis and Chicago with one more in Oakland. The goal of the meetings is to help build and reestablish trust between the police and residents. The panel and attendants included local officials, community organizers and activists, clergy members, young people, police officers, and crime victims who all were able to discuss their issues and be heard at the same table. Several protestors demonstrated outside against police brutality.

A 16-year-old girl has been sentenced to 2 Â½ to 6 years in prison after pleading guilty to a brutal attack last March near Temple University. Zaria Estes along with two other teen friends took a bus to North Philly on March 21st, 2014 looking to play "knock a bitch down." They came across 19-year-old Abbey Luffey, a university student, walking with her boyfriend at 17th and Norris Streets. The girls began to taunt Luffey and the others hit her with their fists. That's when Estes smashed the victim in the face with a brick leaving her with a broken jaw and teeth. Luffey is still undergoing surgeries. Estes will have 4 years of probation after her sentence for aggravated assault, conspiracy and possession of an instrument of crime. The other teens cases were held in Family Court.
