Mount Airy Church Ex Offender Workshops, Essie Mae Sanders Sought, Obama Free College Plan

A Mount Airy Church is stepping up Saturday to help ex-offenders get their life back together. Mount Airy Church of God in Christ is hosting a day full of seminars and workshops for ex-offenders including interviewing techniques, a college prep workshop, finance workshops, and a job fair. Philadelphia is home to nearly 300,000 ex-offenders.

Police are looking for a 93-year-old Philadelphia woman who was last seen Thursday night. Essie Mae Sanders was last seen around 11 p.m. at her residence on the 1400 block of North 12th Street. She suffers from dementia and may not be able to give her name or address when located.
Essie Mae is 5â€™1â€, 120 lbs, with a medium build, brown eyes, a light complexion with freckles, short gray hair in corn rows. She was last seen wearing a camel colored coat, red hat, red scarf, red gloves, and black boots. She previously frequented around 19th and Master Streets as well as the area at Broad and Jefferson Streets. Anyone with information on Essie Maeâ€™s whereabouts is asked to call 215-686-3093 / 3094 or call 9-1-1.

The White House on Thursday announced a proposal that President Barack Obama said would make community college â€œfree for everybody who is willing to work for it.â€ But administration officials provided no details about the programâ€™s costs or where the money would come to pay for it. Obama plans to formally announce the plan Friday at Pellissippi State Community College in Knoxville, Tennessee. He gave a preview in a videotaped message shot aboard Air Force One and posted on Facebook. The White House did say that if all states participated, that nine million students could benefit â€” saving on average $3,800 in tuition per year for a full-time student. That means the program could cost in the billions of dollars. The White House said its proposal was inspired by the Tennessee plan and another similar program in Chicago.
