Frankford Garage Fire Injures Police, Hannah's Law Little Girl Passes, Gloucester Cruiser Kills Boy

Two Philadelphia police officers suffered minor injuries while helping battle a garage fire overnight in the city's Frankford section. Police and fire crews arrived to find the garage fully engulfed in flames, and also discovered a station wagon on fire inside. There was a minor explosion and a piece of metal from the vehicle’s rear bumper flew through the air and struck two police officers in their legs. Both officers were taken to Aria Frankford Hospital in stable condition. Police say one officer was being treated for a broken leg and the other for a cut to his leg.

The young girl who was the inspiration behind the signing of a Krabbe Disease Screening Bill, better known as "Hannah’s Law," has died. The bill was named for Hannah Ginion, a Bristol Township, Bucks County native who battled Krabbe Disease — a rare and deadly disorder affecting about one in every 100,000 newborns. The legislation requires hospitals to offer screenings for Krabbe and five other diseases. Governor Corbett signed "Hannah’s Law" in October. A candlelit vigil was held for Hannah Sunday evening. She died just a few weeks shy of her second birthday.

Authorities say a 10-year-old boy is dead after he was struck by a police cruiser Sunday night in Gloucester County, New Jersey on Delsea Drive and Paul Street in Franklin Township. The driver of the cruiser was a Franklin Township police officer who was responding to a call. Witnesses say the 10-year-old was heading to a sleepover with some friends and was struck crossing the street after one of his friends made it across the street safely. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
