A female firefighter was killed while battling a fire in the basement of a home in Philadelphia's West Oak Lane Section. She was the first female firefighter to die in the line of duty in Philadelphia history. She was an 11-year veteran of the Fire Department. She had been battling a fire on the 1600 block of Middleton Street around 3:00 this morning with Engine 64. The female firefighter was reportedly in the first group that had attacked the fire, and had apparently gotten trapped inside.

A nor'easter slammed the New Jersey shore bringing heavy rain overnight. The coast has been hit the hardest with coastal flood warnings and wind advisories in effect through most of the day. The coastal flood warning is currently in effect from Middlesex County to Cape May County, and moderate coastal flooding is expected Tuesday. Heaviest rain is expected to hit coastal and northern New Jersey where 3 inches are possible. As of this morning 2 inches of rain fell in Cape May, Burlington, and Atlantic counties. Wind Advisories are calling for gusts up to 55 mph throughout the day in New Jersey. In the Philadelphia area, flood watches are in effect until late tonight.

Seamus McCaffery, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court justice who retired in October after being linked to a pornographic government email scandal is collecting $11,000 a month from his public pension. The State Employees' Retirement System says that McCaffery cashed out $455,000 of his own contributions plus compounded interest, leaving him with a $134,000 annual pension. McCaffery's years of service included time as a judge in Philadelphia and on state Superior Court and were augmented with 2.6 years of military service. He did not designate anyone to collect a portion of the pension upon his death, which would have decreased his monthly payments
