Traffic Judge Gets 2 Years Prison; Hepatitis A in Hamilton; Arrest in Ellington Sr. Murder

71-year-old former Philadelphia Traffic Court president judge Thomasine Tynes was sentenced today to two years in federal prison for lying to authorities in a broader ticket fixing scandal. Tynes was one of six former judges involved. She addressed the court and apologized "for the shame and the embarrassment that I have brought to the criminal justice system, my peers, colleagues, and citizens of Pennsylvania, my friends.â€ Judge Lawrence Stengel said that she had an â€œhonesty problem.â€ The start of the sentencing term has been deferred until February. Tynes is also charged in another case with bribery after accepting a $2,000 bracelet from an informant in exchange for special access to contracts. She is expected to plead guilty in that case later this month.

Hundreds of people have turned out at a vaccination clinic Thursday at the Colonial Volunteer Fire Company in Hamilton Township, NJ, for customers of Rosa's Restaurant and Catering on Broad Street. A kitchen worker had tested positive for the highly contagious hepatitis A virus and may have contaminated the food and therefore patrons from November 10th to December 1st. Hamilton Townshipâ€™s health department bought 1000 doses of the vaccine which will cost each person $35. A booster shot is required in six months. There has been one additional reported case of hepatitis A. A 77-year-old man who eats at the restaurant three times-a-week has tested postitive. The disease is not fatal but can cause fever, diarrhea and vomiting. Hamilton Township authorities will determine if a second clinic is needed.

UPDATE: Officials now say the customer who tested positive for hepatitis A actually had a false positive. Further blood tests today confirmed that he is negative for the disease.

Philadelphia Police have made an arrest in the Germantown murder of the father of a Los Angeles Laker guard. The body of 57-year-old Wayne Ellington Sr. was found shot inside a vehicle on the 5200 block Marion Street in Germantown on November 9th. He was taken to and died at Albert Einstein Medical Center. Police have charged 34-year-old Carl White of Philadelphia. Witnesses say that White called out to Ellington causing him to slow down. He then just walked up to the driver's window and fired. White may have been on PCP at the time. He has a lengthly criminal record. They are working on a motive. Wayne Ellington Jr. played High School basketball at Episcopal Academy in Merion (now Newtown Square) and college at North Carolina. He is currently with the Los Angeles Lakers. He has also played for the Minnesota Timberwolves, Memphis Grizzlies, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Dallas Mavericks.
